RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Professional Experience
1996 – to date senior scientist, head of the Department for Analysis of Biologically Active Substances, Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague
1991 – 1996 research scientist, Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague
1989 – 1991 junior scientist, Institute of Physiology, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Prague
1985 – 1989 (CSc.) PhD student, Institute of Physiology, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Prague

Specialization
Dr. Mikšík has a broad spectrum of professional interest: development of new methods for analysis of a broad spectrum of compounds by capillary electrophoresis and chromatography and their applications to the analysis of biological (physiological) functions of the organism. In practice he uses coupling of capillary electrophoresis and chromatography to mass spectrometry and their application to study of proteins, peptides and other physiological important compounds; analysis of steroids and their metabolites in organisms, native and modified proteins; physiology and chemistry of connective tissue and their cross-links; study of nonenzymatic posttranslational modification of proteins; analysis of natural pigments. He is also member of Czech Ornithological Society and has permit for ringing of birds. He has also permit from Central committee for protection of animals (CZÚ 164/99). He spent several stays in abroad, e.g Dept. Biochemistry, University of Oulu, Finland; Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Thailand; Institute of Forensic Medicine, University of Verona, Italy.

Teaching
I. Mikšík has course “Analysis of Biological Materials” at Department of Biological and Biochemical Sciences, University Pardubice (ended with exam). He had also diploma worker (4) as well as PhD students (3). He spent some time at Universities abroad: Thailand, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Department of Pharmacology (2001); Italy, University of Verona, Institute of Forensic Medicine (2004 and 2010 as visiting professor); Chemical Department, University of Madeira, Portugal (repeated stays 2002-2005)

Memberships in Professional Societies and Committees
He is member of the Czech Chemical Society (member of board of the Section for Chromatography and Electrophoresis). He was a member of the Organizing Committees of the international symposia: Applications of HPLC and HPCE in the BioSciences (Prague 1995), 2nd International Symposium Separations in the BioSciences SBS 2001 (Prague), MSB2010 (MicroscaleBioseparations) (Prague 2010) and upcoming 20th International Symposium on Separation Sciences (Prague 2014).

Memberships in Editorial and Advisory Boards
He was an editor of Journal of Chromatography A, Bibliographic Section and now he is a member of Editorial board of Current Analytical Chemistry, ISRN Analytical Chemistry and newly constituted Current Chromatography.
